The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that ski resort area Aspen, Colorado is the most expensive US town.

Currently the lowest single-family property is listed on the market for $559,000 and guess what, it’s in a trailer park!  Should have bought property in Aspen a long while ago, huh?

The average home price in the mountain town has increased over the past four years, to $6 million in 2010 from $5.4 million in 2006, according to multiple-listings data. The median price for single-family homes is now the highest in the country at $4.6 million, according to San Francisco-based Altos Research, surpassing the Hamptons, Beverly Hills and Palm Beach.

Sales of luxury Aspen estates — the sorts of over-the-top places with leather walls and outdoor heated infinity pools — have remained remarkably healthy, thanks in part to foreign buyers. Of the 25 real-estate transactions recorded by Pitkin County for the week of Jan. 19 to 25, five were buyers from abroad, including three Australians and people from Turkey and Hong Kong.

Wow, talk about big luxury news.  According to a recent press release, preparations are already underway to turn a portion of the Belgian Chateau de Versailles into a luxury hotel.

Now the Palace of Versailles is getting ready to add to its list of functions: preparations are underway for a Belgian company to turn The Hotel du Grand Controle, traditionally home to the palace’s treasurers, into a luxury hotel.

The initiative is meant to spur a two-pronged plan to exploit the economic potential of certain valuable, but expensively maintained and often damaged buildings while simultaneously pursuing their renovation. But the handing over of a chunk of treasured public heritage to a private operator is an unusual occurrence in France.

The luxury hotel is slated for a late 2011 opening, with 23 bedrooms and suites at the offer.

Big news for Porsche and their Facebook friends as the company has just celebrated a milestone, receiving one million Facebook fans.

The German automaker’s Facebook page is one of the most popular on the site and to celebrate the news, Porsche will be inscribing one million names of their Facebook fans on a new luxury car that will be on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

Fans who want to have their name on the car must sign up on Facebook. The sign-up period ends December 31.

“Although we are witness to passionate customers and fans every day, it is neat to set another Porsche milestone by growing to over 1 million strong on Facebook,” said Josh Cherfoli, online relationship and marketing manager at Porsche Cars North America. “It’s an excellent opportunity to help us connect with our fan base, and we thank them all for sharing our passion.”

Whether you think it’s just plain silly or the latest trend, the founders of the Original Condom Company have just announced a line of luxury condoms whose packaging has been inspired by high-end jewelry.

According to their website, the Original Condom Company is offering these luxurious condoms which are, of course, elegantly made in France and will promote “safe sex with elegance, chic and eco-aware.”

The condoms themselves are the standard lubed, latex variety, but the boxes themselves feature velvet, imitation suede and gold lettering.

Luxury boxes come in two sizes: the Pocket, priced at $13.50 for three condoms, and the Regular, which costs $20 for a package of six condoms.

Well the luxury market might just be finally springing  back after the turmoil of the recent economic woes are subsiding.

According to Bloomberg news, Bugatti, Volkswagen AG’s supercar brand and Fiat SpA’s Ferrari reportedly have been sold out of their most expensive luxury car models as the desire for luxurious goods is back on its feet.

All five of Bugatti’s 1.95 million-euro ($2.7 million) World Record, the globe’s fastest serial-production car, have been reserved. Chief Executive Officer Franz-Josef Paefgen showed the car, which has a top speed of 415 kilometers (258 miles) per hour, at the Paris Auto Show this week.

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz, the world’s two biggest luxury-car makers, are both targeting 10 percent sales increases this year as the economic recovery sparks a return of flashy purchases. BMW shares have surged 62 percent, Volkswagen has gained 35 percent and Daimler has advanced 25 percent this year.

Well, it’s about damn time, isn’t it?!

On Tuesday the private equity company MerchantBridge revealed that they would invest $20 million in Monaco Luxury Hotels & Resorts to help support the luxury market.

MerchantBridge Chief Executive Basil Al-Rahim said of the investment, “The luxury hospitality sector is in need for further investment. In Europe and North America, the number of new luxury hotels built decreased by more than 20% in the first half of 2010, when compared with the same period in 2008. At the same time, occupancy rates at luxury hotels in Europe and North America increased by an average of 12%.”

This most recent MerchantBridge investment will support a renovation of the Ritz Carlton Montreal hotel.

Chef Adria will be working with Harvard on creating an undergraduate course in culinary physic that would use food to discuss how soft matter physics play a part in culinary creations.  With Adria being infamous for his love of molecular gastronomy, he’s the perfect candidate for such a role.
