18 Feb 2009We live in a world of excess, and sometimes the results can be beautiful. Some of the best things to work towards having the luxury models in include anything you have to live your life in. From clothing, to your bed and of course your house, having the best you can afford will not only give you confidence, but there can be an air of satisfaction and accomplishment in having something “nice”.
While I currently can’t afford a million dollar home, I definitely enjoy looking at what possibilities are out there.
Despite the housing market going through a large re-adjustment, the median price for a home in the USA is around $185,000. While this is only one fifth of a million dollar home, it still can provide more than comfortable living conditions, though not nearly as glamorous.
The average home can provide you with as many as four bedrooms, three bathrooms in a two thousand square foot home. A great example of this is one I found on Realtor.com in Rapid City, SD.
Sitting on almost one quarter of an acre, the house also includes an eleven foot by fifteen foot master bedroom, a reasonable garage, central air conditioning and a dishwasher.
Depending on where you want to buy your million dollar home, you can expect to find things either similar or massively different. If you were to buy a million dollar home in Long Beach California, you’d probably find something similar to the one that I found. A house with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and around 2800 square feet on close to a quarter of an acre of land.
The differences are mostly in the smaller details as well as the more premium location this house offers a nice fireplace, hardwood floors, swimming pool, three car garage, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and walk-in closets.
A difference of $815,000 for a west coast property, in a highly sought after area, that also provides some extra polish with regard to features. Is it worth it? Not everyone would think so, but this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to glamorous homes.
The US doesn’t even rank in the top five when it comes to the most expensive cities in the world to own your own home. A few years ago, a list was compiled and featured places like Monte Carlo, Monaco, where it will set you back around $4,420 USD per square foot. This is of course followed distantly by cities like Moscow in Russia and London in the United Kingdom with a price as high as $1,937 per square foot and $1,928 per square foot respectively.
The first and only US city to make the list was New York, NY where you can expect to pay as much as $1,384 per square foot when the survey was compiled. This means an average 2,000 square foot home would cost as much as $2.768 million dollars to purchase.
Looking for a dream home to wish for? Some amazingly beautiful homes can be found in California along the coast. I found one currently for sale in San Francisco, CA for sixty-five million dollars. It is in the Pacific Heights area, and has a reinforced concrete and steel frame covered by a stone facade.
This estate includes a 20,608 square foot home, with three stories, more than four fire places, and a beautiful view. It includes the requisite central air conditioning and an excessive amount of parking space.
They make sure to note that you can even see the Golden Gate Bridge from the house, a wonderful view in my opinion.
Personally, I prefer more modern style architecture, but it is hard to beat the pricing on this mansion estate.
If you guessed that the most expensive home ever sold was real estate mogul Donald Trump’s Palm Beach mansion, you’d be wrong. His beach front property sold for only one hundred million dollars, a mere pittance compared to the estimated seven hundred and fifty million dollar sale of the La Leopolda in France.
Originally built for the mistress of King Leopold of Belgium, a few powerful business people have owned this estate over the years. Some of the more prominent include Bill Gates, and Gianni Agnelli.
Of course, even this is small peanuts when compared to the currently being built Antilla Tower in Bombay. Currently estimated at costing over two billion US dollars, the private residence has been featured often.
Here is a list of the features on the 27 floor building:
Did I mention that this house is for six people?
